Buses constitute the primary mode of transport for mass transport systems around the globe, accounting for billions of journeys per year. With Karwa Motors, together with our state-of-the-art facility in Duqm, Oman has now entered this highly profitable and consistently growing global market.
Founded in 2017, Karwa Motors is a joint venture between the Sovereign wealth funds of the governments of Qatar and the Sultanate of Oman – the former represented by Mowasalat Qatar, and Oman represented by the Oman Investment Authority. This partnership is, yet one more pearl in a string of political and economic ties between our two brotherly nations.
Located right here at one of the Sultanate’s most prominent gateways to the world, our facility will now serve as the country’s first foray into Bus production. With our technology transfer partners, we aim to introduce several innovations and industry-leading production practices and technologies to Oman, setting the benchmark for all future production facilities to come.
Innovation, however, does not stop at our facility. Our buses have also been designed to be tailored to our global clients’ exacting specifications, not only in terms of configuration but also in terms of unique on-board smart transport management solutions.
The value we, as a company and brand, bring into the country is, however, not restricted just to our customers and staff alone. Karwa Motors was first and foremost created to support the visionary directives of His Majesty the Late Sultan Qaboos Bin Said. A directive aimed at the diversification of the country’s economy and one that is now taking shape under the wise guidance of His Majesty Sultan Haitham bin Tariq. In line with this directive, we are driven by an unwavering commitment towards establishing long-term partnerships by delivering innovative solutions that consistently help optimise the country’s resources and revenues.
Moreover, by opening a vehicle manufacturing plant at a port as strategically significant as Duqm, we are creating valuable opportunities for the birth of new SMEs in the country. Our facility also serves as a gateway into the automotive production industry for many an Omani youth. This is something we openly welcome and always look forward to.
It is, for this reason, I can proudly say that we are part of a new era for Oman; one that will add value to both the automotive and industrial sectors in the country and establish the Sultanate as the hub for commercial bus production in the region.
